New Affordable Housing Coming to Theale

A total of 117 affordable homes are set to be constructed at the Lakeside development located in Theale, within the county of Berkshire.

The affordable housing initiative is a collaborative effort between Abri, a housing provider, and Ridgepoint Homes. These homes are part of a larger project by Ridgepoint Homes that plans to build 281 homes. The completion of the affordable homes is anticipated by 2027.

Fergus Cruikshank, who oversees land and planning at Abri, expressed the organization’s dedication to creating quality homes that benefit local communities. He noted the significant impact of introducing over 100 affordable homes, especially during periods of increased living costs.

“Abri is determined to construct a minimum of 10,000 homes by the year 2030. Projects like these are essential in achieving that goal and are a step towards fostering thriving and prosperous communities,” said Cruikshank.

The housing mix is designed to assist those on the West Berkshire affordable housing waiting list and will include 34 social rent homes, 35 homes at an affordable rent, and 48 homes available for shared ownership purchase.

Beyond providing housing, this project aims to rejuvenate an unused quarry by transforming it into a lakeside community. It will feature walkways along the lake, connecting residents to communal green spaces, a natural woodland reserve, and the village of Theale’s local facilities.

The development will feature various home styles including one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as two, three, and four-bedroom houses.
