Greater Manchester’s “Places for Everyone” Plan Officially Adopted

The “Places for Everyone” regional spatial strategy has been officially adopted by the participating councils, incorporating it into their development plans. Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Wigan, and Trafford are the councils on board with this decision.

Savills Planning Director Jeremy Hinds expresses that this adoption marks a significant step in Manchester’s progression, symbolizing the region’s commitment to unified and strategic decision-making. It showcases the power of collaboration among local authorities to create a shared strategy that benefits everyone.

Hinds explains that this plan sets a clear direction for the region’s growth over the next decade and a half, offering assurance to local communities and investors. It aligns with the goals of the nine councils and the Greater Manchester Mayor, creating a blueprint for the area’s development.

Matt Sobic, another Planning Director at Savills, notes that while Stockport is working closely with the other authorities, it currently prioritizes its own urban centre’s regeneration projects. However, Stockport is still aligned with the collective ambition of Greater Manchester, as seen through initiatives like the Mayoral Development Corporation, Stockport Exchange, and various housing projects.

The Savills Planning Team believes that the adoption of the “Places for Everyone” plan is more than just a local milestone; it’s proof of what can be achieved when authorities work in harmony. It plays a crucial role in driving necessary infrastructure and investment, propelling the city of Manchester and its towns to grow and thrive, with the vision of becoming a global hub for business, culture, and innovation.
