The UK is currently seeing an average of 5,152 estate agent job vacancies, which is a 4% increase compared to last year, according to recent studies.
Research by eXp UK involved examining estate agency job postings on two main job boards, assessing the average vacancy numbers for each British region and their contributions to the national figure.
Analysis indicates that the South East, London, and the East of England are leading in estate agency recruitment.
Holding the lion’s share of job openings, the South East makes up 34% of the UK’s estate agency job market, while London houses 18% of the total advertised estate agency positions.
Conversely, Wales and Scotland account for the smallest shares of job opportunities within the sector—2% and 3%, respectively. Despite this, both have experienced a significant rise in demand since last year.
Scotland witnessed a 120% surge in estate agency job postings, and Wales saw a 119% increase.
Similarly, the East of England and London have substantial growth rates at 65% and 40%, respectively.
Although the South East has the most job openings overall, it’s the only region where there’s actually been a drop—down 26% year over year.
Adam Day, the head of eXp UK, shared insights on the findings: “The estate agency sector has faced challenges over the past few years due to higher mortgage rates reducing market activity, which likely caused businesses to pause hiring plans.
“Despite ongoing challenges from borrowing costs, the property market is showing signs of improvement. We anticipate a stronger year ahead as more buyers and sellers act on their plans.
“Our research indicates agencies are resuming their hiring efforts, contributing to job opening increases in nearly all regions compared to last year.
“For those considering estate agency careers, new avenues, such as self-employment, offer an attractive alternative with the benefits of flexibility and the potential for greater earnings.”
