Demolition work has started on outdated buildings near Old Trafford Cricket Ground to make room for 80 new ‘affordable’ eco-friendly apartments.
Southway Housing Trust and McGoff Construction Ltd are collaborating on this project, which is located across from the Old Trafford Metrolink station and will feature three apartment blocks—one with five floors and two with four floors.
To support first-time buyers and other eligible individuals, all the residences will be available under affordable housing plans, with two of the three buildings dedicated to affordable rental options.
The third building will offer apartments for sale through a shared ownership program, making it easier for first-time buyers to afford a new home.
Every apartment will have either a private balcony or access to shared outdoor areas, along with communal gardens for all residents to enjoy.
The partnership responsible for this development, known as Victor (Old Trafford) Ltd, is a venture between Victor at MC Construction and the McGoff Group.
Mike Purcell, development director at Victor, expressed excitement about the project that began planning in 2016 and is now coming to fruition and will soon provide quality affordable housing due to everyone involved’s dedication.
The project receives financial backing from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority through the Brownfield Housing Fund, part of the government’s Levelling Up agenda, and Homes England via the Affordable Homes program.
Core figures from Trafford Council, including Cllr Tom Ross, the Leader, as well as representatives from Southway Housing Trust, McGoff Group, Victor, Homes England, and GMCA, gathered on-site to commence the first stage of construction.
